Les sciences humaines du passé s'intéressent à la reconstruction des conditions matérielles et immatérielles des sociétés. Au cours de ce processus, elles élaborent un discours qui est amené à être accepté et validé par la communauté scientifique et par toute la société en général. Dans le cas de la Préhistoire, l'absence d'un témoignage vivant fait que ce discours est intrinsèquement lié aux contextes sociaux des chercheurs et, par ailleurs, l'éloignement temporel rend son acceptation plus délicate.

Ce travail évalue le discours sur la préhistoire de la pêche, et plus spécifiquement sur le rôle du genre féminin dans ses narrations. A travers l'analyse du discours, on étudie les communautés des pêcheurs préhistoriques du Pacifique sudaméricain le long du désert d'Atacama. Les résultats obtenus au cours de cette analyse préliminaire se veulent être une contribution à la discussion des modèles et concepts traditionnels sur la pêche et les femmes dans le cadre des études préhistoriques.

Where are the women in prehistoric fishing? The case of northern Chile

Social sciences has developed a special interest in the reconstruction of the material and non-material conditions of societies. As a consequence, the knowledge produced by researchers has been accepted, validated and widely used by the scientific community and society in general. In the case of the discourse associated with Prehistory, the absence of a living testimony generates narratives intrinsically biased towards the social context of researchers.

Here we analyse the discourse associated with prehistoric fishing and the role of women with the case study of coastal communities from the Atacama Desert.Through a discourse analysis of scientific papers linked with the topic, we aim to evaluate the narratives constructed about the fisher-hunter-gatherer groups from the Southeast Pacific. The results obtained from this preliminary study are intended to be a contribution to traditional fishing models, as well as to open the debate on the most common elements used to the understanding of gender relationships in prehistoric fishing studies.
